Being a Fan, and Cramps
3:30 p.m. on May 21, 2008

Hey readers! How are you all today? I'm okay, except for the fact that I'm on my period, and I've got fatigue and just general suckiness going on.

I did complete and win Fairway Solitaire, and promptly removed the game from my computer. It took a while and it was fun to play.

Anyways. So, I was thinking about this. One of the things I really hate is the retarded complaints about South Park. I use the word retarded, because most of the complaints about the show are the same stuff you've heard for the past ten years.

One of the stupidest complaints ever about South Park is the "Oh, it's just toilet humor, people farting and laughing, and just flatulence all the time." NO, IT'S NOT. You're confusing the show with the show within a show, Terrance and Phillip. Also, the poo humor is basically non-existence nowadays. I mean, yeah, it was there last season with More Crap, and on occasion, when somebody dies (the last thing Chef does when he dies is crap his pants) but seriously, that excuse is tired and old. I mean, yes in the first two to three seasons, sometimes a character will fart, and the other characters will laugh or make some other comment. Like, in Starvin Marvin in Space, Kyle farted to which Cartman told somebody, "Kyle's baking brownies, you guys want one." But, seriously, the show is about eight/nine year old little boys! Have you ever spent time with a little boy that age? My cousin is just like that. And, plus, why get offended by farting, I mean, it is like sex and aging: it's natural. I fart. Sometimes it's quiet, sometimes it's so loud I'm like, "DAMN!", sometimes it smells awful. Sometimes it stops a stomach ache. I may even have to fart as I type this. Complaining about one little thing that happens every so often is stupid.

I also hate the whole, "oh, they constantly make fun of something." OF COURSE, THEY DO. And, ooh, they made fun of something you LIKE. Oh, GOD, the Horror. SHUT THE FUCK UP. I've got more to say about this at the end of this. It's interesting that most of the people who get upset because they made fun of Scientology or Catholicism or a certain person or movie or anything like that, wouldn't say another WORD, would turn the other cheek when they rip on something else. SHUT UP. Unless you're willing to stand up to the other 100 or so things they've made fun of, do not complain. No one cares.

I also hate the shock value excuse. SHUT UP. Most of the shock value has a point. It's to point out what the hell is wrong with society. Don't look up to Paris Hilton, fucking little boys is wrong no matter who you are, just because something is imaginary doesn't mean it isn't real, and so on and so forth.

And finally, OH, LOOK, AT THAT ANIMATION. THAT SUCKS. AND MADE FROM OF CONSTRUCTION PAPER. excuse. Shut the hell up there too. One: It takes 6 days to make an episode whereas for Family Guy, Kim Possible, or The Simpsons take nine to tweleve months to do. It's a stupid ass complaint. I mean, yes, it is, but, seriously why are you judging the whole show on basis of the animation?! If I had done that with KP on one episode with shitty animation (like Low Budget, for lack of a better example), I wouldn't be sitting here talking about KP right now. Or have my life utterly changed by the show.

Now, here's the point. I'm willing to put up with that crap. And do you know why? Because, I am a fan. I love the show, and for me, being a fan, being an enthusiast, loving anything: a show, a movie, a hobby, a book, food, whatever, it doesn't matter, means that you're willing to put up with the crap that entails. I mean, come on! I'm a Harry Potter fan. I'm sure the Crazy Christians that think it's the devil because... oooh, it has witchcraft in it, think that those who read the series are going to hell. And let me tell you something, if I was told this by one of those people, you know what I'd say? I'd say this:

One, it is against Christian doctrine to make proclamations of who is going to hell and who isn't. Secondly, if going to hell means that I am an open minded and accepting person, willing to open myself up to new experiences, then I'm happy to go to hell.

Notice that I didn't bother capitalizing hell? I just did. I thought that was funny, but I don't want to remove it.

For me, being a fan, means you're willing to put up with that shit that comes with it. It means, you don't care what other people think about you in relation to that. If I honestly cared about that stuff, I wouldn't be fan. If I cared about what some crazy Christian said about me going to hell because I read Harry Potter, I sure as hell, wouldn't have stuck with it to the end. Guess what? I did, and I'm still a fan. If I cared about what people thought about me about liking a show like KP, I wouldn't have stayed a fan. If I cared what people thought about the end of the show at 65 three years ago, I wouldn't have fought for season 4, and I hadn't, last year would have been different. I think to have that much enthusiasm about anything, you have to put up with stuff like that, and if you're willing to, and keep enjoying what you enjoy, I commend you.

Also, I just checked the mail and I received my copy of The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins. I haven't started reading or opened the package because... I'm writing this! I'd figured I'd keep going with the list I started yesterday. Part 2 of the FCILF List:

*Kim Possible (KP): It's the strong woman thing. Plus, she's a redhead, and I love redheads.
*Ron (KP): He's one of my ideal men types. Roll him up with Dr. Cox, J.D., and Kyle, and it is the perfect man.
*Shego (KP): I have to include her. She's the reason I decided to like women as well.
*Fry (Futurama): He's a redhead, and he's just sexy beautiful.
*Leela (Futurama): Strong woman thing.
*Anakin Skywalker (Star Wars): No idea why.
*Obi Wan Kenobi (SW): I just like him.
*Ian Malcolm (Jurassic Park): He's SEXY GORGEOUS!
*All Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum characters.
*Kyle (South Park): Yes, he is a 9 year old, but this is mostly referring to if he was OLDER. His speech giving abilities, and his hair is amazing.
*Stan (SP): Same thing as Kyle. I like how ethical and moral he is. He's smart for his age, like Kyle.
*Cartman (SP): Same thing as the other two. But, I would enjoy him because he's insane.
*Sarah Connor (Terminator): Strong woman thing.
*Kyle Reese (Terminator): His name is Kyle! :)

Okay, the rest tomorrow. :)
